BOATIES can learn how to operate a VHF radio in a three-hour lesson offered by Redland Bay Coast Guard.
The Australian Waters Qualification radio course will be delivered from 8am on Saturday, June 16 at the RBCG base at 9A Meissner Street, Redland Bay.
A Coast Guard spokesperson said the course qualified graduates to obtain a VHF marine radio licence, which was needed to avoid fines.
“This licence allows them to legally operate a VHF radio up to 12 nautical miles from the coast line,” the spokesperson said.
“It also enables them to apply for a Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) for the Digital Selective Calling (DSC) facility on their VHF marine radio.”
The course is $70. To book, ring John Josefski on 0400 075 429.
Alternatively, ring the Coast Guard base during the weekends on 3206 7777.
