The event will showcase resources from local community groups, services and businesses that are available to carers, young people and the community.
The expo is an initiative of Foster Care Queensland and partners Salvation Army communities for Children Logan (CFC), First Five Forever (Redlands and Logan) and Redland City Council.
Foster Care Queensland volunteer Sam Bonaccorso said the expo was mooted after a workshop held in Logan in 2017.
“It was noted then that there was a lack of knowledge about what resources were around for families. We decided to hold an expo so that people could find out,” she said.
The expo is suited to children up to the age of 18.
“As you can imagine, as a foster or kinship carer there are a million things to do every day. You take young people into your home without a second thought. You blend them into your family and treat them as if they were your own and all the while you have to navigate a system that you have very little knowledge of.
“You deal with behaviours and complexities that are often so big you have no idea how you are going to manage, yet somehow you do. The needs of young people in our community are ever growing and it is really difficult to know where to go in order to get the help that they need, that we need as a family.
“It is with the above in mind that we decided to help the community learn about available resources to help them and their children along in their journey.”
Among the exhibitors will be First 5 Forever, Sibling Reconnect- YMCA, Pyjama Foundation, Club Create, My Horizons, Pacific Smiles Dental and Dhamma and Co
