CARMEL College student Holly Komorowski has stepped onto the big stage with a mass ensemble in Harvest Rain’s production of Grease, describing the performance as one of her biggest achievements yet.
The 15-year-old was part of two shows on July 14 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, starring Christine Anu as Teen Angel and Beau Ryan as Vince Fontaine.
Auditions were held earlier this year and rehearsals began in two months ago with students giving up their weekends and school holidays to practise.
Holly joined more than 600 youths who made up the ensemble.
The year 10 student has performed at festivals and winning the highest score for a vocal solo at Wynnum Manly Eisteddfod last year and has been part of her school musical and rock band.
Holly said the singing, dancing and acting in the ensemble for Grease was life changing.
“After I found out I had passed the audition I was so excited, I couldn't wait for rehearsals to begin,” she said.
“Having to rehearse everyday was exhausting but I loved how everyone became so close.
“We called it our ‘Grease family’ and the friends I made are really special.”
Holly said this was a big milestone for her when performing and having to learn different types of choreography.
“Even though I have spent a lot of time on stage, I have never been a part of something this big,” she said.
“(The choreography) was very challenging as some of the music is quite fast.
“Having to fit a lot of different moves in was difficult, but once the mass ensemble had it perfect it was very rewarding.”
Holly will audition for the next Harvest Rain Production of Wizard of Oz.
