A Brisbane man's schizophrenia played no role in his decision to choke, punch and kick a Korean woman to death, a psychiatrist says.
Alex Reuben McEwan is on trial for the murder of Eunji Ban near Brisbane's CBD in November 2013.
He has confessed to killing her but pleaded not guilty on the grounds his mental illness deprived him of the ability to control his actions.
McEwan claims he was possessed by a demon named Jazzy when he attacked Ms Ban near her Roma St unit, dragged her body to nearby Wickham Park and dumped it under a tree.
Treating psychiatrist Angela Voita has testified McEwan's schizophrenia did not play a role "at all" in affecting his behaviour during the alleged offence.
She believes McEwan was "very intoxicated", with the alcohol helping to bring out his violent tendencies.
"Because it was violent, it doesn't mean it was due to a mental illness," Dr Voita, clinical director of The Park Centre for Mental Health, told Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday.
"There doesn't appear any significant change in his behaviour or how he interacted with others to suggest he was experiencing a psychotic episode."
The night before Ms Ban's early morning death, McEwan and his friends had been drinking at his Spring Hill unit.
He said he could not remember waking up and leaving his home, but recounted not being able to stop himself attacking Ms Ban.
Dr Voita said McEwan reported first seeing visions of a demon in the watch house after his arrest, contrary to his testimony that Jazzy was present since he was 11 or 12.
He told her he had exaggerated his symptoms and wanted his family to believe he killed Ms Ban due to mental illness rather than "evil".
He also said he had violent fantasies throughout his life and had killed animals.
"I thought there was a sense of entitlement at times, part of a narcissistic flavour where he was quite assertive at times, thought he was special in some way," she said.
