JOSE Toussaint is calling on the Redlands community to raise funds for not-for profit organisation Night Ninjas at her Dress Up for Charity ball.
Guests can wear their best dress and a mask on August 31 from 7pm to 10pm at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly.
There will be entertainment by Mama Juju and the jam tarts, guest speaker Julia Baker from Snake Boss, raffles and best dressed prizes.
Ms Toussaint said it was important to raise awareness of an issue that was not easily seen.
“The fundraiser is held because of acknowledging the people living on the poverty line and homeless people, which increases day by day,” she said.
Ms Toussaint said the cause was very close to her heart as she was homeless herself about 10 years ago.
“My car was my shed and staying with people close to me wasn't an option for me back then,” she said.
“Being homeless comes in many different shades – it doesn't always look like someone living under the bridge.
“If I had known The Night Ninjas back then it would have made my struggles a little easier to cope with.”
Ms Toussaint said she hoped everyone would support the event to help Night Ninjas continue to make a difference in people’s lives.
Tickets costs $29 per person and if a guest brings a friend it is $49 for two people.
