A free snowflake workshop and toy donation drive is being conducted at Capalaba Central until October 24.
The initiative is in partnership with the Redland Community Centre and calls on community spirit and goodwill in the lead up to the festive season with $1 donated to the Redland Community Centre for every snowflake decorated.
The snowflake workshop will be located in Centre Court from 10am to 1pm and offers patrons a chance to get creative and decorate personalised wooden craft snowflakes. The unique snowflake creations contributed by locals will form part of Capalaba Central’s Christmas decoration display.
Locals are also encouraged to spread the festive spirit by gifting new toys to the onsite toy drive to support Redland Community Centre with its 2018 Christmas appeal. Donations can be made from 9am to 5pm.
For all new toys gifted via the toy drive, supporters will receive a complimentary $10 Capalaba Central gift card.
General Manager of Redland Community Centre Allison Wicks said this community initiative provided emotional and financial support to local families ahead of the festive season.
“Each year at Christmas the Redland Community Centre gives the gift of hope by providing Christmas presents to those less fortunate in our community. Last year we were able to help 378 families with 833 children receiving gifts, and we are hoping to exceed this to provide even more families with the support they need,” Ms Wicks said.
“We are very grateful to Capalaba Central Shopping Centre for enabling this project to take place, to not only raise funds for the Community Centre but to raise awareness of the role we play in our community.”
Capalaba Central Shopping Centre will also give away 400 scoops of gelato from 11am until sold out on Saturday, October 13 and Saturday, October 20.
