Island Vibe Festival has expanded its offerings to facilitate its first permaculture retreat.
This retreat is open to 12 participants who will share in a rare opportunity to walk with local permaculturists and traditional owners to explore the story of food sovereignty on North Stradbroke Island.
It offers participants an opportunity to grow their connection to country, immerse themselves in the local community and sink their feet deep into the sands of island culture.
This is a synchronistic collaboration between Island Vibe festival, Grounded Permaculture Action Party Inc, Pacific Earth School and Straddie Adventures.
The retreat runs from October 21 to 25 and covers permaculture ethics and principles, holistic context, solar passive design, urban permaculture, hands on patterns and design, immersive Quandamooka Kulcha experience and mindful movement meditation.
The retreat includes three meals a day from a zero-waste vegan kitchen and theory classes based out of the festival site and the practical aspects exploring projects on the island.
Facilitators are Rupert Faust of the Grounded Permaculture Action Party Inc, Symbiotic nature’s Annaliese Hordern, Jay Jackson of Organic Motion, Billa Lauiti-kolkr and Keith Golsby-Smith of Pacific Earth School, Mark Jones of First Nation Sovereign and Straddie Adventures and Mikala Maloney of Inner Journeys with Mikala.
Registration is $500 for the retreat only. Participants are to organise their own accommodation and festival entry. Participants are eligible for a discounted four-day Island Vibe ticket priced at $150 (saving of $90).
Island Vibe comes to Home Beach, Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island from October 25 to 28. Tickets are available through events.ticketbooth.com.au/event/island-vibe-2018. More on islandvibe.com.au
