Few Australians have embodied the spirit of cricket or given as much to the game as Marsh, acclaimed as one of the most competitive cricketers to ever wear the baggy green.
As Australia’s youngest ever wicketkeeper he played 96 Tests, set a world record of 355 dismissals and this year celebrates his 50th year of involvement in first-class cricket.
During the golden era of the 1970’s Marsh and Dennis Lillee set a record for a bowler/keeper combination that has never been broken. After his playing career ended, Marsh created a template for coaching that ushered in another golden era for Australian cricket. He travelled to England as a coach and then selector, helping to break Australia’s 21 year reign on the cup in 2005.
Marsh’s autobiography, features photographs, memorabilia and fascinating stories. Photographs are from Marsh’s private collection and contributions from a who’s who of cricketing legends including Dennis Lillee, Ian and Greg Chappell, Mike Brealey, Michael Holding, Clive Lloyd, Andrew Strauss, Darren Lehmann, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer.
The book is published with Affirm Press and retails for $45. It will be available for sale and signing at the lunch. The cost is $45 (GV members $40) which includes a two-course meal. Book on 3884 3000 or functions@gvh.com.au
