Queensland mother Fiona Simpson has been formally recommended for a bravery award for shielding her baby during a freak hailstorm in the state's southeast.
The 23-year-old was left with horrific bruising and cuts after hail blew out her car windshield last week near Kingaroy, however she managed to protect her baby girl from the brunt of the storm.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday told parliament she had written to the Australian Bravery Decorations Council to formerly recognise Fiona's courage.
"The cuts and bruises Fiona suffered show how bad it was. (Baby) Clara had barely a scratch," the premier said.
