The Redlands will be represented at the Armistice day centenary celebrations at Villers-Bretonneux in France on November 11.
Alexandra Hills pianist Shane Calderbank will accompany the 30-voice Voices of Biralee choir which will perform a range of war and modern songs as well as the Australian and French national anthems at the war memorial site on the day.
Included in the choir is Mr Calderbank’s wife Natasha and Redlanders Margaret Francis, Andy Francis and Shelby Forbes. Heather and Peter Francis will also attend to play flute and cornet.
Mr Calderbank said he had first visited the site partnering Natasha who sang as a member of the same choir at the event in 2015.
“It’s pretty special. It makes you appreciate the soldeirs who went there and thankful that we have what we have as a result,” Mr Calderbank said.
Mr Calderbank said the memorial was covered with poppies during the service.
“It is definitely an emotional time,” he said.
Mr Calderbank said 2018 had been an exciting year for him, having played for the musical Beautiful at QPAC and as a member of the Logies band at the Gold Coast in June.
