FEATURE walls are an excellent design tool for creating drama and impact and can spice up just about any room in the house.
Simply pick a room and prominent wall – or maybe two.
A feature wall can be done with a simple painted colour or wallpaper and it’s easy to do it yourself.
The team at Bristol Paints at Capalaba are experts in feature wall designs and owner Danielle Carroll said that bold feature walls work best in large spaces with high ceilings.
“Features walls don't have to be contained to one space,” said Danielle.
“If you carry the same colour through into one or two rooms throughout your home, it will create an exciting and dramatic experience for your guests as well as the home owners.”
Danielle suggested perhaps a feature wall in the entrance of your home and then a second one in the living and dining space for added impact.
Bedrooms are where you want to create a sense of calm and relaxation using deep, dark colour paint or a textured wallpaper.
Lounge areas are places where we tend to gather with our friends and loved ones, so a bold conversationalist wallpaper would be best for this environment and there are plenty of designs to choose from.
Danielle said that a choice of wallpaper with bold, bright colours or a pattern should tie into your furnishings.
“This is a space where you can let your creativity go wild!”
Areas within your home that tend to feel small such as hallways, study nooks or powder rooms can be made to feel taller or wider with the use of stripes as well as a light patterned wallpaper.
A small, simplistic pattern will make your space feel airy and open.
If you are worried about the wallpapering process to achieve your dream feature wall, it's easier than you think, said Danielle.
There are a few calculations for measurements required, just take your time and the staff at Bristol can help you with this step to figure out how much wallpaper you need.
Said Danielle, always remember your pattern repeat, which is explained on the roll of wallpaper.
And make sure to read the instructions, also located on the wallpaper roll, as steps and techniques can vary depending on different wallpapers.
With a keen love of life in the Bayside, Danielle and her husband Dan, along with baby Eloise, became part of the Bristol Franchise Group to share their passion for decorating with their local community.
