A WELLINGTON Point diver has made a splash at the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.
Julie Matkovic, a member of the Redlands Amateur Platform and Springboard diving club (R.A.P.S), competed in the women’s 50 to 59 year age group in the one and three metre springboard events.
“It’s an amazing atmosphere (at the games), catching up with like-minded people and admiring adults over 50 diving and delivering amazing achievements,” Ms Matkovic said.
She said she was thrilled to walk away with two bronze medals and a personal best score.
“It’s always great to get the bling. My medals now have the pride of place in my house.”
Ms Matkovic achieved a score of 94.75 in the one metre event and 104.65 in the three metre, her personal best score.
A diver of only two years, Ms Matkovic began training in the sport after encouragement from her daughter and the R.A.P.S coaches.
“My daughter was a diver, and the coach was a good friend of mine,” she said.
“I love (diving). I’m always inspired by the amazing support I get from the kids (at R.A.P.S).”
Ms Matkovic has now gone on to prepare for the 2019 Australian Age National Championships to be held in Perth next April.
“I’d love to also be selected for the World Masters Championship in China,” she said.
