MORE than $20 million is being spent on Redland schools as part of the state government’s 2020 Ready Program.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said a $4.6 million two-storey learning centre would be built at Alexandra Hills State High School .
“The centre will include three general learning areas, a design studio and dance studio,” Mr Brown said.
“The contract is expected to be awarded in January next year, with the centre forecast to open at the end of August.
“It’s also worth noting that this project will support up to 13 jobs during construction, which is terrific for our local economy.”
The government also was delivering on a $100,000 election commitment to Mount Cotton State School in the Springwood electorate, with the installation of shade sails to be completed by the end of the year.
At Russell Island State School, $1.2 million was being spent on the refurbishment of six buildings.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said the project would see classrooms spruced up, with the job expected to end in late January.
Two projects were also under way at Cleveland District State High School. A $6.6 million multi-purpose hall was completed in October, while the refurbishment of the manual arts block should be finished by the time students returned next year.
A $9.2 million three-storey secondary learning centre was being built as part of the 2020 Ready Program.
It would include 14 general learning areas, four specialist areas, a dance studio and robotics laboratory.
The project was due to finish in late August.
Education Minister Grace Grace said refurbishment projects at Dunwich and Redland Bay State Schools also were on track, including extensions to classroom blocks.
“We’re only scraping the surface in announcing works happening around this region, with smaller projects under the $1 million mark also underway,” Ms Grace said.
“The Palaszczuk government is committed to providing world-class facilities in our schools, no matter the scale of the project.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that is delivering for our students who are the leaders of tomorrow.”
Ms Grace said a $3.46 learning centre also was under construction at Wynnum State High School which was to be ready for the start of the school year.
She said the government was investing millions into the Redlands Coast region.
