Australia’s elite 16ft and 13ft sailors will put their skills to the test in the 2019 National Skiff Championship in Brisbane from December 29 to January 5.
More than 40 boats are expected to enter the event, making for spectacular racing on Moreton Bay.
The championships will be held at Darling Point Sailing Squadron at Manly, where skiff racing has been part of the club for generations.
Commodore Ray Lambourne said there was a lot on the line for this year’s event.
“There is great rivalry between New South Wales and Queensland, with the southerners bringing a strong competitive fleet to our waters this year,” Lambourne said.
“Queenslanders will benefit with their knowledge of Moreton Bay and its unique conditions but the New South Wales sailors have a competitive fleet.
“In the 13ft skiff series, DPSS members Keith Jones and Carlton Smith are vying for a hat trick, having taken out the event for the past two years.
“Our 16ft sailors are determined to put Queensland on the podium and it’s certainly going to be exciting racing for competitors, and compelling viewing for spectators.”
Spectators can get close to the action, with the Lady Brisbane departing William Gunn Jetty, to follow the course.
