Christmas will extend until Australia Day at the Redland Museum this year with the presentation of the play Christmas Day as its annual Australia day offering.
The play will be performed on January 25, 26, 27 and February 1,2,8 and 9 with matinee from 12.30pm performances on January 28 and February 3. Tickets to the matinee performances are $25, inclusive of devonshire tea and to the evening show $35. The evening ticket includes beef bouguignon and trifle, served from 6pm.
Sharon Vassallo who plays Kate in the production said the play was a comedy with dark undertones and was essentially about a family in chaos.
“Kate is the character who props everyone up. She’s a control freak but lives with the fear that at any time, she could suffer the same mental illness as her mother. Her sister and Kate both deal with the same issue in different ways,” Ms Vassallo said.
Ms Vassallo said she was enjoying playing the role of this complex and interesting character.
“You see a little bit of yourself when you explore the character an I can resonate with her various moods. It makes me put myself in her shoes and I feel sympathetic with her and it makes me realise who tough it must be to balance your life that way.”
Other cast members include Kat Wasiel as Louise, Diana Gogulski as Grace, Chad Sherrin as Chas, Tracey Mann as Maraget and Dallas Fogarty as Gavin. The play is directed by Debbie Spearritt with musical direction by Donna Magrath, Ian Munday as stage manager assisted by Margaret Laurence and sound and lighting by James Auld and Craig Stevens.
