The Beautiful Girls returns to the Redland Bay Hotel to wrap up its summer tour, performing at 3.30pm on February 9.
Mat McHugh is the face of the musical collective, which he descries as an evolving cast of friends and musicians.
“We play a few records on the radio and think we should take the music to where the people are and we get the gang together,” McHugh said.
This will be the group’s third visit to Redland Bay, something McHugh said was akin to where he grew up on the beaches out of Sydney.
“I’m not an inner city kind of person. There is a different mentality to playing regionally. There is something free and easy about it. I am definitely more at home. Give me an outdoors stage with a water view and I’m there. Redland Bay ticks all the boxes,” he said.
McHugh said it had always been the project to build his music ‘brick by brick’.
“For that reason these cocerts are a pretty high priority – and always the most fun.”
Beautiful Girls is fresh from a European tour hitting the UK, Germany and The Netherlands, and including shows at London’s O2 Academy, Boardmasters Festival and Holland’s Zandstock.
McHugh performs with bass player Paulie B and former Xavier Rudd drummer Bobby Alu. Alu doubles as the tour’s supporting act in duo mode as master ukulele strummer.
The latest Beautiful Girls’ single, Beautiful World offers some smooth reggae that is upbeat, uplifting and transformative by nature.
