YOUNG Redlands players have helped the Queensland team to victory at the U17 national championships.
Redlands Softball Association players Aiden Blackmore, Byron Humble, Kynan Molander and Caleb Vandegriendt competed in the championships from January 5 to 11.
Association president Wayne Molander said the competition was fierce during the final, with the team playing against New South Wales, the only team they had lost to earlier in the championships.
“The grand final was really what you want to see from a game,” Mr Molander said.
“The boys were run for run. It really went down to the wire.”
The team finished the game ahead by one run after New South Wales were unable to pick up any runs in the final inning.
Seven Redlands players were part of the Queensland Patriots open men’s team playing in the John Reid Shield in Canberra this week.
Redlands Softball Association will also send players to Sydney in the coming weeks to compete in the U19 championships.
Isaac Caloiero-Smith was also competing for the shield, playing for South Australia.
