Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club is a great organisation to join a sporting team and it’s also a great venue for a fantastic dining and entertainment experience.
The club is currently welcoming aboard new and existing sports enthusiasts to join their teams this year.
Sharks is entering its football, netball and softball seasons with sports sign-on sessions being held over the weekend of February 2 and 3, at the club venue.
The club’s main objective is to provide excellence through sport and community achievement.
It has many affiliated sporting clubs including AFL football with the Redland Bombers and the Sharks junior and senior teams, softball junior and seniors, netball, cricket, triathlon and fishing.
Sharks was founded in 1966 by Ern Dowling who was looking to establish a football club for the local children. But the club is not just for those wanting to don shin guards or netball bibs.
The club has 90 gaming machines, Keno, TAB, five bars including a sports bar, dining room, function rooms and a first class kitchen.
Sharks is now well known as the community hub of the southern part of the Redlands with an excess of 50 staff who all work in the provision of sport or in the delivery of quality bar, gaming and food services.
The entertainment is outstanding at Sharks, which has hosted some of the big names of Australian music and the best cover bands.
Live music is on offer on Friday and Saturday nights, plus trivia, bingo and poker a few times a week.
“We believe the point of difference between our club and similar venues is our friendly service, great staff and our community involvement,” said general manager Mal Cochrane.
Mr Cochrane has recently celebrated 20 years in the position and he nominated the great relationships he has made over the years as being the key to him staying and enjoying the role.
The club is always on the lookout for local community projects to be involved in.
“We are a friendly Club and cater to a wide age group and abilities, so make sure you get yourself and/or your kids involved in some sports with Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club.”
