Join Ricarts and start your own discovery of art.
Ricarts is a community based organisation on Russell Island offering opportunities to explore your own creativity in a beautiful environment. In the midst of Kennedy Farm, an avocado grove with disabled ramp access, you can join the pottery workshops on Mondays and Fridays, painting on Tuesdays, craft on Wednesdays and mosaics on Thursdays. Coming soon is patchworking. People with or without experience can come and learn.
During the year, we engage with Redlands gallery projects as well as offering special workshops with professional artists. The beauty of this place, The Farm, Art House and Gallery is that everyone is welcome. The atmosphere is collaborative and joyous. On February 7 a group participated in Tricia Dobson’s workshop on weaving with natural and recycled fibres.
Who could imagine that those palm trees and banana trunks we often pass by, provide materials from which you can make just about anything.
Tricia demonstrated simple ways to create a base with the stems from palm flowers and weave from those twisted twines, banana trunk bark that naturally peels away from the tree. The incredible sheen and jaded grey brown colours combine into many resilient shapes, bowls, baskets, plates, and even sculptural shapes.
Entry to the gallery is Robert St. Groups meet Monday to Friday 9.30am – 12.30pm. More information at ricarts.org.au or phone 3409 1783.
