QUEENSLAND Ambulance Service paramedics may have been inspired by Cupid, the god of love, when they went to help a 100-year-old Macleay Island veteran last week.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics went to David's home on Wednesday last week, which was the eve of Valentine's Day, after he was hurt.
However, rather than just rush David to a Brisbane hospital, officers Gareth and Tess decided to go the extra mile to help David show his wife he loved her.
The spokesperson said David had told the paramedics that his 94-year-old wife was a patient at Redland Hospital.
David had had not seen her a while.
"The paramedics decided that a visit was long overdue," the spokesperson said.
"And although David's injury required transportation to a different Brisbane hospital, the paramedics sought permission to conduct a surprise visit to his wife’s ward in Redland Hospital along the way."
The spokesperson said Tess and Gareth, in true Valentine's Day spirit, helped David pick a romantic gift for his wife.
"Of course, Gareth and Tess knew better than to turn up empty-handed and first helped David pick up a bouquet of flowers," the spokesperson said.
