BALD is beautiful for 78-year-old Buckingham Gardens Aged Care Service resident Aurielle Green, who shaved her head to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
About 20 people attended Ms Green's big shave on February 28, including Buckingham Gardens residents and staff and Ms Green's daughter.
Guests were impressed by Ms Green's courage, with one resident remarking she was "as game as Ned Kelly".
"I felt very nervous right at the beginning but I'm okay now, just emotional," Ms Green said.
Her family had not suffered from any serious illnesses, but Ms Green said she knew there were many who had not been as lucky.
"That's the reason I did it, to help others," she said.
Ms Green will donate $525 to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Buckingham Gardens service manager Pauline Jones, who wielded the clippers on the day, said she had been impressed by Ms Green's determination to raise the money.
"It's all been her idea and we've just supported her," she said.
Ms Jones said Ms Green had collected donations from friends outside Buckingham Gardens, as well as staff and visitors.
"We decided to have the big party for her to celebrate her efforts."
Guests enjoyed music, decorations and a cake, with Ms Green cracking jokes, laughing and dancing as her head was shaved.
She said nobody was too old to shave for a cause.
"Those diagnosed and suffering from leukaemia need support and help," she said.
"This is the role that I can play to help raise awareness and fund research to find a cure."
