Redlands Tigers' sixth grade 2 side has progressed to the grand final with a hard fought draw against Toombul, while wet weather put an end to both fifth and sixth grade 1's seasons on Sunday.
Persistent rain over the weekend wreaked havoc across the grades, but fifth grade and sixth grade 1 were the worst affected. Not a ball was possible in sixth grade 1's clash with Valley 1 at Mitchelton State High School, while in fifth grade the rain saw the match end in a tie.
The Tigers lost the toss and were sent into field by University in bowling friendly conditions on the opening day in fifth grade. The Tigers' quicks took full advantage of the swing and seam, dismissing the home side for 127. Jason Hill led the way with four wickets alongside Chris Barker, who claimed two.
The Tigers got off to a good start with the bat, making 4/127 before the heavens opened and put an end to the game on Sunday afternoon.
The tie means fifth grade bow out of the premiership race due to University of Queensland's superior regular season finishing position.
It was a different story in sixth grade 2's clash with Toombul, where a draw was enough to send the Tigers through to the grand final.
The Tigers were dismissed for 131 hard fought runs in the 87th over after being sent into bat first - a total that looked below par until skipper Matt Wheeler stepped up to the plate to bowl his side to a draw with figures of 5/42.
Plaudits must also go to the Tigers' top order, who battled hard in difficult conditions to hold the innings together. Pat Cummins (29), Mark Burt (22) and Isaiah Shepherd (21) were the stand out performers.
The Tigers will take on Valley 1 over the next two weekends at Ashgrove Sportsground where the 2018/19 Sixth Grade champions will be crowned.
