The Valley bowlers came out firing after the Tigers won the toss and elected to bat, claiming the first three wickets for 12 as the top order went without really troubling the scorers.
A small partnership between Shane Beu (17) and Mark Burt got the innings momentarily back on track, but only Isaiah Shepherd (23) managed to provide any resistance as the Tigers capitulated to be all out for 80.
An early wicket to Ben Thompson gave the Tigers a glimmer of hope early on, but Valley saw out the rest of day one without suffering any great damage and batted for all but four overs on day one to post 264.
In between the day's carnage was a five wicket haul for Ben Thompson, who was the shining light for Redlands on a difficult opening weekend.
A tight spell from Wes Aspeling (2/17) late in the day helped finish off the Valley tail just as they were threatening to take the lead beyond 200.
The Tigers have a big job ahead of them in the second innings and will resume at 0/7 after Damyn Waddups and Mark Burt survived a tricky four over period before stumps.
