Patrons are promised music to keep them wide awake as band Asleep at the Reel performs for Redlands Modern Country Music Club's next social to be held from 5pm on Saturday, April 6.
Asleep at the Reel evoke the sound of the lively Irish pub, of flying fiddles and rich voices in harmony around an open fire. The songs are stories wrapped up in music.
The band is known for its rollicking jigs and reels, tapping into a long standing tradition.
In 2018 Asleep at the Reel released its debut CD entitled The Emerald Dream, characterised by its rich and diverse collection which joins the dots between Celtic music and contemporary Australian song, courtesy of nationally-acclaimed songwriter Mark Cryle.
Band members include Cryle on guitar and vocals, Rose Broe on accordion and vocals, Mick Nolan on bass and vocals, Hugh Curtis on fiddle and mandolin, and Suzanne Hibbs on percussion.
The event will be staged at the Redlands Modern Country Music clubhouse, Pinklands sports reserve, 226 Cleveland Redland Bay Road, Thornlands. This is a semi-outdoor venue and patrons are encouraged to bring a chair and insect repellent.
Members of the club will also perform a variety of country music songs.
Admission is $4 for members and $5 for visitors. A barbeque meal will be available and a licensed bar will be operating. There will be free tea and coffee and a free country style supper will be served at 8:30pm.
