Morrison in Tasmania for $25m health pitch

Mr Morrison will campaign in Tasmania on Thursday, which marks one week since he fired the starter's pistol on a May 18 federal election.

The $25.6 million health promise mirrors Labor's pledge to give $25 million to help Tasmania get its own AFL team.

On Sunday, Tasmanian Liberals said health was a bigger priority and ruled out matching the football commitment.

In response, Labor MP Brian Mitchell, who holds the federal seat of Lyons with a margin of 3.8 per cent, said his party could walk and chew gum at the same time.

The opposition has campaigned heavily on health, which it sees as a major advantage with voters.

Mr Morrison said the government had delivered record health funding, pointing to a 44 per cent increase in federal money for Tasmanian public hospitals.

"A strong economy gives us the ability to invest record funding to guarantee the essential services that Tasmanians rely on," he said.

"Our new North and North West Tasmanian Health Plan will deliver more doctors, more services and more critical health infrastructure."

The package includes $10 million for a community health centre in Launceston's south to meet increased demand for renal and oral health services.

The revamp of the Kings Meadows facility would increase the number of dialysis bays for chronic patients.

There's also $10 million to improve the acute care facility at the North West Regional Hospital.

Under the plan, $4.5 million would go to new perinatal infant and mother-baby mental health services at Launceston and North West Regional hospitals.

The Queenstown Allied Health and Aged Facility will get $1 million, while $100,000 is set aside for two buses to help people in rural and remote Tasmania access health services.

A $2.3 billion cancer treatment package is at the centrepiece of Labor's health promises.

On Wednesday, Mr Morrison visited Labor-held Tasmanian seats Braddon and Lyons as the coalition targets potential gains in the island state.
