Federal MP Andrew Laming has dipped into the federal roads' budget to address what he says are greensealing delays on Macleay Island.
As part of an SMBI visit for ANZAC commemorations, Mr Laming visited Macleay and Russell to speak to residents on some of the worst affected streets.
Mr Laming said Tingara Street needed sealing years ago and, thanks to the federal government, was expected to be sealed next financial year.
Resident Ross Byrne said various residents faced heath struggles, including a woman with emphysema, her sister with cancer, and a neighbour with lung cancer.
Mr Laming said Ms Byrne had raised the health issues at a meeting at Weinam Creek two months ago and he decided to investigate.
He said the road was rutted and carried a significant amount of traffic.
"After I confirmed that Tingara is one of Redland city's highest road seal priorities, it was pretty obvious I had to pitch in with some resources to get the road seal process accelerated," he said.
"Having met the locals, I am glad we achieved council's commitment to prioritise the work.
"Canberra can only do some small projects, but they will all add up, and the extra money will be paid directly to council, regardless of the federal election result.
"This project is a guarantee and fully funded in last month's budget. It isn't one of those 'if you vote for me' commitments."
Mr Laming said he expected Redland council to schedule the work for the next financial year.
