Taikina Kane-Potaka, 17, said she organised the event with friend Tess Konagham to give young people a voice ahead of the May 18 federal election.
The rally was one of about 75 organised as part of School Strike 4 Climate that took place on Friday across Australia.
While other student-led protests took place during school hours, Taikina said the rally at Cleveland was organised for 3pm to allowed teens the chance to voice their concerns without missing out school.
"A lot are so passionate about it but were scared to skip school," she said. "There were concerns about detention."
What footage of the protest below:
Bowman MP Andrew Laming addressed the crowds, saying that everyone had a say at the federal election by voting for their preferred candidate.
Taikina and Tess spoke about the importance of combating global warming and reducing emissions to help the planet and communities.
Other students were also given a say, directing questions to Mr Laming.
Taikina said she had planned no further protests outside the office ahead of the election.
The rally had allowed young people to voice their views and she believed the response from Mr Laming was appropriate.
"Our only goal was to be heard," she said. "I felt like that was achieved.
"He was very respectful and listened to us. Everyone was pretty respectful."
The protest also attracted an older crowd, with some brandishing placards about stopping the Adani coal mine, committing to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2030 and ensuring no new coal, oil or gas projects were given the green light.
Mount Cotton resident Stan Perkins said he believed the government had done nothing to curb climate change or fossil fuel emissions.
He said he was worried about his grandchildren's future, with something needed to be done to stop rising levels of air pollution and protect the environment.
"The kids are rallying about the future but Adani is an immediate problem," he said.
Greens candidate for Bowman Emerald Moon said she was inspired to see the student-led action but was disappointed by Mr Laming's responses.
"These kids know what they are asking for. I feel like we didn't get answers to what kids were asking for.
"They wanted simple yes or no answers."
