WORK on a service station, child care centre and a swim school at southern Redland Bay is expected to get under way in August.
The development will be on the corner of Collins Street and Donald Road.
Little Scholars School of Early Learning will open the child care centre, adding to their facility on Main Street, Redland Bay.
Little Scholars founder Jae Fraser said more child care services were needed in the area.
"We decided to open the new centre because of the demand from our current families," he said.
"We have 120 children on our waiting list."
Mr Fraser said many young families were moving into the area as houses were reasonably priced.
Developer Rod MacLeod said he hoped to start operational works on the blocks in July and building the following month.
The development includes an indoor recreation centre and two food and drink outlets.
Mr MacLeod said the intention was for the indoor centre to be a swim school.
"There is no swim school in the area," he said.
"We are looking to fulfill a need in the community."
The Little Scholars centre, with 150 places, will be known as the Redland Bay South facility. It is less than four kilometres from the existing service which caters for 86 children.
The new centre will employ 30 educators and would offer opportunities for people who provided extra-curricular activities like dance and yoga.
Mr Fraser said he expected the child care centre to open in December. Enrollments were already being accepted.
"We are being inundated with interest," he said.
Mr Fraser said the service would cater for children from six weeks old to school going age, and also provided before and after school care and a school holiday program.
