A bank spokesperson said the initiative was part of a nationwide program through which each Commonwealth Bank branch was given $500 to donate to a cause important to their local community.
"Over the next few months, Commonwealth Bank has pledged to donate $500,000 nationally to recognise organisations that make a difference in the communities in which we live and work," the spokesperson said.
Spirit of the Dragonfly will use the money to buy a sunshade to use at their fundraising barbecues.
The charity was established in 2005 and has raised more than $300,000 through the barbecues.
Commonwealth Bank's Capalaba branch manager Stacey Tripp said staff were excited to be able to support the organisation.
"Spirit of the Dragonfly and their supporters are tireless in their fundraising efforts," she said.
