CLEVELAND-REDLAND Bay Road will be duplicated between Magnolia Parade and Benfer Road in a $37 million upgrade and $5 million will be spent on improving access to the Gateway Motorway at Belmont.
The commitments are including in the Palaszczuk government's four-year roads program as part of the state budget to be handed down on Tuesday afternoon.
The $37 million is in addition to $5 million previously committed to upgrade the Anita Street and Cleveland-Redland Bay Road intersection.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said the Victoria Point section of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road was in a growing community where extra capacity was desperately needed.
"As a key connector to Victoria Point State High, the local shopping centre, the Marebello development and the rest of the south-east, the Palaszczuk government has earmarked the $37 million to upgrade the existing two-lane road to four lanes," Ms Richards said.
She said the duplication work would create 30 jobs, in addition to those supported through the Anita Street intersection upgrade.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said the $5 million would improve the Gateway Motorway and Cleveland Sub-Arterial Road intersection, adding to the $1.53 billion for M1 upgrades including jointly-funded initiatives.
"We all know the traffic backlog with the makeshift third lane that is created in morning peak hours, that is why I am glad that we are committed to fixing this in this year's budget," Mr Brown said.
"With this announcement and construction on the $9.77 million Victoria Point bus station well under way, we're keeping our commitment to improve safety and bust congestion on Redland's roads."
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Sunday the state budget included $19.2 billion spend on health, up $929 million from this year.
This included $1.4 million for emergency department beds and birthing facilities at Redland Hospital. She said 800 nurses, 200 doctors, 250 health professionals and 200 ambulance officers would be hired across the state.
