REDLANDS locals can catch a free movie in Thornlands Community Park on Friday.

From 6pm, the park will come to life with a screening of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Events like these could become a regular occurrence in the Redlands if organiser Enrico Ferreira can get his venture, Movie in the Park, off the ground.

"A couple of months ago my wife and I were thinking about something to bring to our area," Mr Ferreira said.

"The plan was to start small and grow it into something with food trucks and stuff like that.

"At the end of the day we want to have a small little movie festival going on."

Mr Ferreira said movie screenings would happen during the school holidays if the first event proved successful.

He said movie goers would have access to a coffee van on Friday night and were welcome to take a picnic rug and snacks.

"You can walk in, sit down, meet your neighbours and have a chat," Mr Ferreira said.

"It's kind of a meet and greet with some entertainment."

Movie in the Park will be a family friendly event.

The screening will start with Redlands business advertisements at 6pm.

Thornlands Community Park is located at 270-282 Cleveland Redland Bay Road.
