THE annual re-enactment of Matthew Flinders' landing on Coochiemudlo Island will be held on Sunday.
Mr Flinders - most likely accompanied by his brother Samuel and Bongaree, an Indigenous interpreter from Port Jackson - landed on Norfolk Beach on July 19, 1799.
The re-enactment will take place on the same beach, just south of the Matthew Flinders Memorial.
Alongside the re-enactment there will be a street parade, period dancers, folk dancers, a marching band, cadets and presentations for the best float in the parade and the best period costume on the day.
The Coochiemudlo Island beach market will offer a variety of stalls with Indigenous jewellery, art and craft, collectables and more.
Entertainment on the day will be provided by Damon with his keyboard and food is available from stall holders and local businesses Curlew Cafe and Red Rock Cafe.
Local real estate agents will be displaying information about housing options available on Coochiemudlo.
There are also kayaks and barbecue boats for hire (bookings required).
Visitors can also do a five kilometre walk around the island which has three sandy beaches, a wetlands trail and the western side filled with mangroves and birds.
The market is open from 9am to 2pm. The parade starts at 10.05am, arriving at the memorial flagpole at 10.20am.
Naval cadets will raise the flag at 10.25am before the official welcome and addresses by Redlands MP Kim Richards and deputy mayor Lance Hewlett.
The re-enactment of Matthew Flinders landing on the beach, sextant reading and storytelling by the historical society will take place at 11.40am.
