REDLAND Bay water police will leave the ocean behind and head to the desert to raise funds for the Cancer Council during this year's Mystery Box Rally.
Senior Constables Clint Dowd and Luke Watkins - who will be driving under their team name, The Other Guys - will embark on a trip spanning more than 2500 kilometres.
The five-day charity rally leaves from Byron Bay on August 17, bound for the remote outback.
The exact route they will travel is unknown, with details of the day's journey only given to the teams each morning.
Along the way, they will travel on unsealed roads in remote locations in a two-wheel drive car which is more than 25 years old.
It will be a new experience for the pair, who are used to driving 40 tonne police boat the Stewart Kerlin II.
To enter the rally, each team had to raise a minimum of $3500 for Cancer Council Australia.
So far, The Other Guys have raised about $4200, with more than $87,000 raised in total so far for this year's rally.
Joining them on the road will be Yeah Nah Maybe, a team made up of husband and wife Scott and Tracy Norris, as well as teams from Alexandra Hills and Capalaba.
Mystery box rallies have been running for more than a decade and have raised more than $20 million for research into various types of cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma, pancreatic, brain, liver, myeloma, ovarian, lung and breast cancers.
