It all came down to the final match of the FQPL season, with Logan looking to take the second promotion spot as they were two points ahead of Capalaba after 17 rounds and needing only a draw or a win to seal that spot. It was going to be tough for the Bulldogs.
With hundreds filling John Fredericks Park covering the sidelines and clubhouse with supporters from both sides, the atmosphere was electric. A fog was rolling in and emotions were high but it was two goals from Ryo Ono, one in each half, that sealed the deal for Capalaba.
Capalaba's coach David Booth was ecstatic. "Just a fantastic performance, it's amazing how desire wins you games and that's what it was, pure desire. It was a phenomenal performance from the lads.
"It was amazing, all year (Ono) hasn't been in form but he's the one you need in your game that will do that for you at the end of the year."
Capalaba now joins Sunshine Coast Wanderers in the NPL and will be taking on some of their hardest opponents yet. There will also be the first Capalaba and Redlands United derby in years.
Capalaba go into the finals series with a weekend off before playing in the semi-final against one of the winners in the elimination finals.
