THE REDLANDS Orchid Society will hold its annual charity spring orchid show on Saturday, August 31 at Cleveland's Donald Simpson Community Centre.
Committee member Tom Edmonds said the society would put their prized orchids up for sale at the show to raise money for Redland Hospital Auxiliary, who they have been supporting for the last ten years.
"We give them a large percentage of whatever we take on the door, a commission from the sale of our member's orchids and they come along and put a craft store in the show as well," he said.
"The last show we did they picked up nearly $2,000."
Edmonds said the society also held orchid shows on the third Tuesday of each month.
"Members bring along the plants they have in flower and they're put along a bench in varying categories and judged," he said.
"We also have a speaker come along and talk about different topics. The person we had in last month spoke about all the different bugs and diseases that can come into an orchid house and how to get rid of them."
The society will take a bus trip to the Glass House Mountains this September to enter their prized flowers in the local orchid show and visit the Sunshine Coast's best orchid nurseries.
Edmonds said tickets cost just $15 and included the orchid show entry fee, bus fares and morning tea.
The charity spring orchid show runs from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
Adult tickets cost $3 and can be purchased at the door.
