JOBSEEKERS looking for casual work over Christmas can be paired with retailers with job vacancies thanks to a new Christmas Retail Ready campaign.
The campaign - which is an initiative of the National Retail Association and employment service HELP Enterprises - runs from August until Christmas for people and businesses in the greater Brisbane area.
The NRA will act as a matchmaker between retailers offering casual jobs over the Christmas period and jobseekers who have been vetted by HELP for aptitude and skills.
NRA chief executive Dominique Lamb said the initiative would benefit both retailers trying to meet increased demand over the busy holiday season and those seeking work.
"Christmas is the busiest time of year on the retail calendar, with many businesses looking to upscale their staffing numbers to meet increased demand," she said.
In 2018, more than $50 billion was spent across the country during the Christmas trade period, which runs from mid-November to the end of December.
"That is why the NRA has teamed up with HELP Enterprises so that we can match new job opportunities with those seeking work," Ms Lamb said.
"All jobseekers who will be referred by the NRA have been thoroughly vetted by HELP, so retailers can be assured that they are getting a reliable staff member with the required skill sets.
"Although participants will only be employed on a casual basis, in many cases this will assist jobseekers with getting a much-needed foot in the door to paid employment."
The Christmas casual recruitment campaign will run until Christmas.
