UPDATE: 7pm
QFES has announced about 100 people are safely sheltering at the O'Reilly Guest House following an earlier warning to leave the area due to a bush fire impacting on road access.
The group includes police, guests and staff who have been unable to leave the area by road.
Authorities remain in contact with the group and are confident they are in no immediate danger.
Plans are being enacted to ensure the group can leave as soon as it is safe to do so.
EARLIER:
EVACUATION of O'Reilly's has been halted after ember attacks crossed Lamington National Park Road and winds have become hazardous.
QFES Acting Fire Commissioner Michael Wassing said 97 people remained in the resort where they will stay until it is deemed safe for them to leave.
The occupants of about ten houses in the area have already evacuated.
Commissioner Wassing said O'Reilly's was not under direct threat from the fire but the road was unsafe and conditions were likely to get worse overnight, with wind gusts of 70km/hr or more predicted.
He said many of the aircraft supporting firefighters had been grounded because of the wind.
Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen said the road to O'Reilly's was challenging at the best of times.
"It is a very winding road with exposed areas as well as areas of forest," he said.
Cr Christensen said Queensland Police had started evacuating people from the area about 2.30pm because the road was easier to navigate during daylight hours.
