THE Capalaba Warriors under 16 rugby league team are raising money for a life-changing trip to England next April.
So far the team and their parents have racked up about $20,000 through bingo and poker nights, barefoot bowls, car washes and volunteer work.
Some players have also raised $2000 through personal sponsorships to cover flight costs.
Parent Misty Kemble said between the fundraising money and player sponsors the team had raised about $70,000, putting them almost halfway to their target of $150,000.
While overseas the team will train alongside the Sheffield Eagles, a professional club that plays in the second tier of English domestic rugby league.
Ms Kemble said the tour was an opportunity for players to take their game to the next level alongside seasoned professionals.
"It is another avenue for them to learn something new, play alongside other kids just like them and get a glimpse of what professional football looks like," she said.
"Hopefully whatever they learn over there they bring home and pass onto the juniors at the club even if it is just one experience or skill."
The players have been working hard to secure personal sponsors since finding out about the tour.
Ms Kemble said her son worked at Skippy's Fresh Frootz every Saturday morning to earn his sponsorship money.
"We told the boys to go out and get sponsors and ask them how they could help in return for sponsorship," she said.
"We're trying to keep all our sponsors local so then the businesses can use the boys how they see fit."
A poker night at the Capalaba Warriors clubhouse on Saturday, September 28 will help raise more money for the trip.
Ms Kemble said the entry fee was $50 and there would be more than $2000 in prizes on offer.
"If you are passionate about kids in sport and giving them an opportunity of a lifetime then you should come along and hear our stories," she said.
