A WET end to the week is on the cards for Redlands, Beaudesert and Jimboomba, with the Weather Bureau predicting a 90 per cent chance of showers and storms for Friday and Saturday.
It comes after temperatures climbed above 40 degrees in some parts of south-east Queensland on Monday and Tuesday.
Falls are expected to be heavy, with up to 10 millimetres predicted for Beaudesert, eight millimetres for Jimboomba and six millimetres for Redlands on Friday.
Saturday falls could top 30 millimetres at Beaudesert and Jimboomba and 35 millimetres in the Redlands.
A Weather Bureau spokesman said storms were also a possibility as an upper-level trough pushed through.
"That system will peak on Saturday and then start weakening and going out to sea on Sunday," he said.
The spokesman said Beaudesert and Jimboomba last received more than 25 millimetres of rain during June.
RSPCA Queensland spokesman Micheal Beatty is warning motorists to be extra cautious during the wet weather, as sprinkles of rain attract wildlife to the edges of roads.
"Obviously we're all desperate for rain but in the early stages it can come at a cost," he said.
"Small amounts of water run off the bitumen and onto the shoulders, creating green grass pickings which attract kangaroos and wallabies in particular.
"We're just urging motorists to be vigilant as we're already seeing an increase in the number of injured animals."
