THE Redlands is gearing up once again for the race that stops the nation, with Melbourne Cup events set to be held all across the city next Tuesday.
Stylist Donny Galella said animal prints were all the rage this season, with race-goers encouraged to reflect their personalities in their outfits.
"Bold types can go for a modern style with bright colours," he said.
"If you're conservative, pare back for a classic look with neutral tones."
All eyes will be on Surprise Baby, owned by Alexandra Hills resident John Fiteni, which will be racing for the $8 million Melbourne Cup.
Skies will remain mostly clear at Flemington, but the weather bureau is predicting a 70 per cent chance of rain for Redlands on Cup Day, with temperatures to peak at a mild 25 degrees.
While Victorians have enjoyed a public holiday for the Cup since 1877, many in the Redlands enjoy lunch at a local venue and take part in an office or club sweep.
