It was a tough day for the Redlands Tigers' First Grade going down to Norths after a massive run chase.
N McSweeney hit 204* and M Dawson 113 to post two declared for 415.
The Redlands' openers saw out a tough period at the end of day one. Day two didn't start well with early wickets falling. The majority of the batsmen making starts but getting out due to loose shots. The tail dug in, with Charles Mailli scoring 97 (117) and Jon Stimson with a very patient 13 off 129 balls, as the pair tried to salvage a draw. Unfortunately, the last wicket fell with just under an hour left of play. Redlands out for 283. Charles Mailli 97, James Bazley 38, Nick Hurford 26. Norths going back out for its second innings and finishing on 2/67.
SECOND GRADE
Second Grade, playing at home, had Norths 7/280 after day one. Norths came back out to bat, eventually declaring on 8/297 due to two rain delays. In response, Redlands lost two wickets early and then had to rebuild. With time lost earlier in the day, the team was looking to shut up shop and play out for the draw. But just as one partnership would develop, a wicket would fall. James Catlow-Elliott batted well on debut with a very patient 46 (129) and was well supported by Mitch Drennan with 40 (79). But when James Catlow-Elliott departed, wickets started to fall.
Redlands were eventually bowled out for 163. Craig Holdsworth 22 (42) and Matt Short 22 (44) were the only other notable scores. Norths going into bat for its second innings finished on 2/40 and won on its first innings.
THIRD GRADE
Third Grade, at home, was chasing 250 after week one. Redlands starting its run chase week two at 2/13. The batsmen were watchful at the start of their innings due to rain before the start of play. The Redlands' batsmen making starts but then getting out. When Rueben Burger and Jacob Apted were batting together, they were starting to gain momentum but the lunch break came at the worst possible time, with wickets falling not long after play resumed. FOURTH GRADE
Fourth Grade played at Norths. Redlands was chasing 226 for the victory. Apart from Luke Davies, the top order again struggled and found themselves at 7/79. A very patient partnership between Luke Davies and Taylor Cue helped steady the ship as they tried to save a draw. A couple of late wickets falling to create a very tight finish, but it was the opener Luke Davies who held his bat all the way through the innings and bought up his first hundred off the last ball of the day and saved the day. Redlands finishing 9/164 for an unlikely draw. Luke Davies 101* (248) and Taylor Cue 19 (96).
