UNSEALED roads, septic systems reportedly leaking into wetlands and a lack of car parking at ferry terminals will be on the agenda at a Russell Island residents meeting on Saturday.
Yvonne Beckett, secretary of the Moreton Bay Combined Island Associations, said the meeting would allow residents to voice their concerns with a view to forming a plan of how infrastructure could be improved.
Issues up for discussion - many of which have been ongoing for a number of years - include sealing roads, reticulated sewerage, more car parking close to the Weinam Creek and Russell Island ferry terminals, and an evacuation area at Rocky Point.
Talking points also include internet and mobile phone connectivity, public transport and recreational infrastructure like pontoons.
The meeting comes after a petition was put to the state government, calling for an inquiry into why Redland City Council had allegedly failed to provide infrastructure like sealed roads and reticulated sewerage on the islands.
A council spokesperson said at the time that the islands had a complex infrastructure history. Council had been working from a relatively small rates base to improve facilities on the island since responsibility had been transferred from the state.
The meeting will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 2.30pm at Russell Island Recreation Hall near the ferry terminal. Mainland residents are also invited to attend.
