MOUNT Barney Lodge stands empty of staff and guests as firefighters battle to hold back a bushfire coming from NSW.
At 11am today QFES reported a very large bushfire travelling in a northerly direction from Mount Nothofague National Park and Mount Barney.
Queensland Police has closed the Mount Lindsey Highway south of Rathdowney as a result of this fire.
A QFES spokeswoman said properties were not under direct threat at that time.
At Mount Barney Lodge, staff were sent home yesterday for their own safety while co-owner Innes Larkin remained behind to prepare for the oncoming fire.
"We have evacuated everyone except me," he said.
"We are in contact with parks, police and SES and it seems quiet but warning levels are still high.
"Containment lines are being dozed in grassy flats at the base of the park to help stop the spread."
Mr Larkin, who this morning set up a sprinkler on the roof of the lodge, said he was prepared to initiate his bushfire survival plan and would not be taking any risks.
