HALFWAY through Schoolies week, parties on the Gold Coast are raging but things are quiet on North Stradbroke Island.
Between Saturday and Tuesday, QAS treated 239 people for Schoolies-related incidents on the Gold Coast, 23 of whom were taken to hospital.
Gold Coast police said school-leavers had been generally well-behaved, with 28 arrests made mainly for drug offences.
It compares to 29 in the same period last year.
Several liquor infringement notices were also issued.
Police reminded the community that possessing and consuming illicit drugs was illegal.
"Not only is it illegal - it is also dangerous and could have fatal consequences," a spokesperson said.
"Police will not hesitate and continue to take enforcement action against anyone found in possession of, supplying, trafficking or producing dangerous drugs."
Police reminded school leavers to act responsibly, stay safe and watch their mates.
In the first four days of the week-long event, 50 non-schoolies were arrested on charges including drug and public nuisance.
On North Stradbroke Island, Point Lookout Police Beat's Senior Constable Ivan Parsons said things were quiet, with most teens heading to the island for "pre-Schoolies" in the September holidays.
"If we get Schoolies (in November) they're generally not getting into trouble, they're usually just looking to enjoy themselves and have a good time," he said.
He said extra police had been patrolling the island in September, with the main issues being underage drinking, noise and out-of-control parties.
"There was a lot of unruly behaviour," he said.
"There were some irresponsible parents - some of them were having parties with 60 or 70 kids."
He said police had issued thousands of dollars' worth of liquor infringement notices.
