CAPALABA Police Beat has done their part for charity Share the Dignity by donating more than 70 handbags filled with hygiene products to women and girls doing it tough this Christmas.
Police officers hand delivered the bags to a collection point at Bunnings Warehouse on Thursday so they could be distributed to homeless and at-risk women experiencing domestic violence.
Capalaba police spokeswoman Pauline Dunn said they called on family, friends and the community to donate preloved handbags as part of Share the Dignity's 'It's in the Bag' Christmas collection.
"It was a fabulous opportunity to make a difference for any woman or girl experiencing homelessness or poverty this Christmas,"she said.
"It was especially nice to be able to give back to those who local police see and interact with regularly when out and about on patrols.
"...Every bag was also given a little extra gift to uplift each recipient and help them feel special this Christmas."
The spokesperson thanked QPS staff, friends and local retailers for their donations.
Share the Dignity started 'It's in the Bag' to give more than 80,000 homeless women a little happiness at Christmas after discovering that they were putting the needs of others before themselves.
They asked people to donate things like tampons, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant and body wash with the bags to make them feel special.
