BRISBANE was lashed by thunderstorms on Wednesday but Redlands, Jimboomba and Beaudesert missed the brunt of the cells that moved through south-east Queensland, receiving just a few millimetres.
A Weather Bureau spokeswoman said the Brisbane CBD received 112mm inside an hour, which was more than the average rainfall total for December and more than had fallen in the last six months.
Severe storms are possible for today and Friday but the Weather Bureau expects them to be isolated if they eventuate.
The storm that caused flash flooding in parts of Brisbane about 10pm last night tracked through the south-west and north-west before making its way to the city.
The cell weakened as it reached the coast, meaning Redlands received just 3.6mm.
Beaudesert (2mm) and Jimboomba (3.6mm) also missed heavy falls as the storm tracked further north.
The Weather Bureau is predicting a 40 per cent chance of rain for the Redlands today with the best chance to come on Friday.
Beaudesert and Jimboomba rate a 60 per cent chance today and a 70 per cent chance on Friday, but rainfall totals are not expected to exceed about 8mm.
A top of 37 degrees is expected in Beaudesert and Jimboomba today while the Redlands is unlikely to break into the thirties.
The SES are urging Queenslanders to prepare for storm season after they received 70 requests for assistance during last night's downpour.
People should clear gutters, trim tress, create an emergency plan, stock an emergency kit and ensure vehicles, home and contents are insured.
