THE search operation underway for a 54-year-old man who went missing in waters off Southport on Sunday will be scaled back, police have announced.
Police have been co-ordinating an air and sea search for Anthony Schilperoort since his jet ski was found drifting 13 kilometres east of the Southport seaway on Sunday afternoon.
Redlands water police, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Surf Life Saving Queensland were among those who joined in the search.
"Despite extensive search efforts, crews have been unable to locate any sign of the man," a police spokesperson said.
Water police will continue to conduct patrols across the coast.
The search began when police were alerted to the drifting jet ski after another vessel noticed the craft and no rider in its vicinity.
Police later located a vehicle and trailer linked to the jet ski at a boat ramp at Main Beach.
Police would thanked all agencies and members of the community for their assistance.
