VICTORIA Point's $2.4 million vocational school and youth hub for disengaged students is set to be completed in the coming months.
The YMCA Vocational School and Youth Hub is being built on the vacant land next to the Link Road facility and will provide vocational training and adjusted education programs to students between 12 and 18 years old.
The school will operate in temporary accommodation on site from Term 1, 2020.
Head of campus Shane Williams said the campus would open a temporary site with an initial 20 students in anticipation of the completion of the new facility mid-year.
"The YMCA Vocational School's approach is to re-engage students in education, through specially adapted programs, curriculum and structures," he said.
"The YMCA Vocational School uses these strategies to support and prepare students for further education, training and employment.
"The YMCA Vocational School strives to deliver high quality educational programs, focusing on supporting student individualised education from academic, wellbeing and vocational settings."
The YMCA operates similar schools across five campuses located in Acacia Ridge, Ipswich, Kingston and North Lakes.
YMCA Victoria Point manager Adrien Fitzpatrick said the local community and YMCA members would see benefits from the new school and its facilities.
"Its exciting times ahead for the YMCA Victoria Point, with the offering of the new YMCA vocational school," he said.
"The school will add value to our precinct, by supporting the future growth of our youth in the local area through new programs and opportunities.
"In addition YMCA members will benefit from new and improved parking and access."
Redlands MP Kim Richards said the school would provide extra senior learning options.
"This project will deliver an improved overall precinct for the YMCA at Victoria Point and create a real community hub."
