Macleay Island has proven itself as a place for reading and relaxation with six mini street libraries being built by members of the Renegades men's shed.
Former Renegade member Ian Kirk said he was first convinced by his wife Robbie to build one outside their home in Dalpura Street with a view to recycling books.
"The concept is to take a book, leave a book or donate a book for everyone to enjoy and to share," Mr Kirk said.
Mr Kirk said that having six book depositories in a community of about 3500 to 4000 people must be a record in Australia and a great effort by those who partnered with individual sponsors.
"The libraries are all very attractive and different in their own way. The sixth is yet to be launched," he said.
A further street library funded by Council has also been installed inside the tourist information office at the Weinam Creek ferry terminal.
