A RAINY week will not dampen the romantic spirit of Redlands couples as they celebrate Valentine's Day tomorrow.
Businesses like florists and restaurants are set to have a busy day as people plan something special for their loved ones.
Sharon Sihota from Birkdale Flower Farm told the Redland City Bulletin last year that people were increasingly choosing arrangements that branched away from the traditional red rose.
Some people opted for arrangements in their partner's favourite colour or with flowers that had special meaning in their relationship.
"We had a man once who got one dozen red roses, but wanted one to be artificial," she said.
"That way he could say he would love his partner until the last flower died."
Justice Minister Yvette D'Ath said romantics would be wise to stay alert of online dating scams and romance rorts, with Australians losing more than $28 million to romance scams in 2019.
"Scammers will go to great lengths over many months to gain your trust ... but once your defences are down, they'll strike. Scammers could ask, either directly or subtly, for money, gifts, or even your banking or credit card details.
"One of the most manipulative tricks in a scammer's repertoire is pretending to need money for a personal emergency."
She said people should be cautious, never send money to people they had not met in person and keep an eye out for inconsistencies in their stories.
